Thank you for choosing The Palm Medspa + Wellness for your treatment. To help you achieve the best results and minimize risks, we’ve outlined important pre-care and post-care instructions for dermal fillers.
Every treatment is unique, and your provider may give you additional personalized recommendations. Please review the guidelines carefully before and after your appointment. Following these instructions will:
Enhance the effectiveness of your treatment
Support your body’s natural healing process
Reduce the likelihood of complications or side effects
If you have any questions before or after your treatment, or if you experience anything unexpected, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Your safety, comfort, and results are our top priorities.
Let us know if you are taking antibiotics, have had any dental work done, or have any breaks in the skin.
Following the steps below prior to your treatment will help you achieve optimal results and minimize side effects.
72 hours prior to your appointment
Discontinue the use of exfoliants and retinoids at least three days before your treatment. These products can increase skin sensitivity and the risk of irritation or bruising.
Begin taking arnica consistently during this period, as it may help minimize bruising and swelling.
Avoid medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil, as they can thin the blood and increase the likelihood of bruising.
24 hours prior to your appointment
Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment. Alcohol can increase swelling and bruising, while smoking can reduce circulation and slow the healing process.
Make sure to stay well hydrated, as properly hydrated skin responds better to fillers and heals more efficiently.
Day of your appointment
Arrive with clean, fresh skin. Avoid applying makeup or heavy skincare products, as a clean surface ensures the treatment is applied safely and accurately.
To ensure your results last and look their best, follow these post-care instructions closely. Proper aftercare will help your skin heal smoothly and enhance the effectiveness of your treatment.
First 48 hours after your appointment
Refrain from exercise or any strenuous activity during the first 48 hours. Physical exertion can increase blood flow to the face, which may exacerbate swelling or bruising.
Protect your skin from sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 45, reapplying every 2 hours, as sun and heat can increase inflammation and affect healing.
For Two weeks after your appointment
Avoid any other aesthetic treatments on the treated area, including facials, massages, or other cosmetic procedures. This prevents filler migration and ensures optimal results.
48 hours after your appointment
Avoid heavy exercise or any strenuous physical activity. Increased blood flow and heat from workouts can reduce neurotoxin effectiveness and increasing the risk of bruising or swelling. Gentle movement, such as walking, is fine during this period.
You should also avoid rubbing, pressing, or massaging the treated areas. Touching the injection sites can spread the product to unintended muscles and interfere with your results. Be mindful when washing your face, applying skincare, or resting your head on a pillow to keep the treatment area undisturbed.
General Upkeep
Keep your skin clean and hydrated. Use a gentle cleanser with tepid water and follow with moisturizing products that support skin barrier health. Avoid harsh or abrasive products during the healing period.
Use a cold compress for 10 minutes at a time as needed to help reduce redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness. Over-the-counter Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be taken every 4–6 hours to manage discomfort.
Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for at least 8 hours to prevent movement of the filler and reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
