Chemical Peel Pre-Care Instructions

Following the steps below prior to your treatment will help you achieve optimal results and minimize side effects.

2 weeks prior to your appointment

Protect your skin from unnecessary irritation and discoloration by avoiding direct sun exposure. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 45 or higher every day, even when indoors or on cloudy days. Do not use self-tanner, as it can interfere with the peel’s ability to work evenly and may cause patchy results.

72 hours prior to your appointment

Pause the use of exfoliants and retinoids to reduce skin sensitivity and avoid irritation during your peel. Stop taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, and Advil, since they can increase the risk of bruising or interfere with your skin’s natural healing response.

Day of your appointment

Arrive with fresh, clean skin free of makeup, lotion, or oils so the peel can penetrate effectively. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated, as this supports both comfort during treatment and the healing process afterward.

Chemical Peel Post-Care Instructions

For the best results and to keep your skin calm and healthy after your chemical peel, it’s important to follow these recommendations:

For 24 hours after your appointment

Avoid applying makeup to allow your skin barrier to recover and minimize the risk of irritation or infection.

For 48 hours after your appointment

Stay out of direct sunlight as your skin will be more sensitive. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 45 or higher, and reapply every two hours when outdoors to protect against UV damage.

For 72 hours after your appointment

Avoid activities that cause excess sweating, such as heavy exercise, hot yoga, or saunas, since heat and perspiration can aggravate freshly treated skin.

General Upkeep

Expect some mild redness, tightness, or peeling as part of the healing process. Keep your skin clean and well-hydrated by using a gentle cleanser with tepid water and a fragrance-free moisturizer. Do not use retinoids, acids, or other harsh skincare products until your provider clears you to resume them. Most importantly, avoid touching, rubbing, or picking at the treated area, as this can cause scarring or uneven results.
